Morning Routine

Once upon a time my mornings looked more like a freight train heading off a cliff instead of a calm and peaceful morning. I would wake up at 6:00, 6:30, or even 7:00 and have to rush around on a war path yelling at everyone else that we were going to be late for whatever it was we were heading to. Throwing things together, forgetting things on my counter, and racing out the door with half dressed children, lucky to have grabbed a bite to eat or packed lunches.

Something had to change. We need to have the peaceful organization that comes with a well managed schedule. Since I have tried my own schedules and failed countless times I decided to do some research and find out what has worked for other people. Whatever plan I found had to match up well with my personality. I love to do lists, I like to wake up early, I tend to be more ambitious in the morning then at night, and I love pen and paper lists more than digital.

Through my research I have discovered that in order to have a successful morning routine I need to have a successful evening routine. As a result I knew I needed to find companion schedules for both my morning and evenings. There were elements I absolutely wanted to incorporate into my day: writing this blog, reading, meditation, stretching. There were parts I absolutely had to have: cleaning, organizing, self care, personal hygiene, and eating. I turned to my favorite search engine Pinterest to find what I was looking for. I looked through list after list and read blog after blog about "The Perfect Morning Routine." They were all either overwhelming or exhausting. I did not want to wake up at 5am and be a total zombie by 7 because I had taken on the world.

Finally, I think I have found it. I'm day 5 into this new routine and I am really enjoying it. Last night I did not follow through on the evening routine and I'm more just disappointed in myself then I am in the process but because of my daily morning routine I'm still right on track.

Emily came up with this great routine and the companion routine. Be sure to check her out. I have been happily checking off boxes and my days are already going smoother. My goal for July is to have a morning and evening routine that makes my days run smoothly. She has certainly made this less challenging with her awesome tools and positive attitude.
